As mentioned in my previous blog post about Cresta de Gallo, we are very grateful that we’ve stayed in Sanctuary Garden.
Staying in Sanctuary Garden was the best decision we made. We were tempted to change plans during the RORO trip because I wasn’t getting any updates from my contact from the resort. When we went departed the ship, someone approached me and mentioned my name. Perhaps, it was gut feeling on his part to ask me and I immediately said “Yes, it’s me!”. It was one of the partners / owners of Sanctuary Garden and his name is Edgar. He brought his SUV and picked us up at the port then brought us to the resort. The reason that I didn’t receive his texts / calls is because of network problems. We felt so shy that he had to do this for us. This made me confirm the the things I read online that staff and especially owners of the resort go an extra mile for you.
Sanctuary Garden is very near the Magdiwang Port and it only took us around 10 minutes to get there. My first impression of the resort was that it was clean. We chose the Sampaguita – 2 Room which is an airconditioned room with private bath. I was impressed with the room. It’s a simple nipa hut with a small balcony. The toilet is clean and they have towels, soap and shampoo for guests. Our room didn’t have TV but we don’t really need it because we knew that we’re going to be dead tired for sure. We were really surprised that the room is cheap! We only paid PHP 1,100 for one night!
Sibuyan Island is gifted with great selection of flora and fauna and the resort exemplifies this. They have different species of flowers around the resort so if you like taking photos of flowers, this is a great place for you. The resort has 2 Philippine Macaques. I asked them if they have clearance from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and they said that yes they do. They actually found them and reported to the agency.
It would be a let down to not see Mount Guiting-Guiting while in Sibuyan so good thing that guests would be able to view this from the resort.
Our Sibuyan trip wasn’t complete because we weren’t able to go to the waterfalls and other areas of interest there because of lack of time. Sibuyan is still on my bucket list and when I come back, I will surely stay in Sanctuary Garden to experience the hospitality of the people there.
