It was only today when I realized that there is a tranvia/jeepney in Luneta Park. The ride costs 50 pesos per person (20 pesos per child) and the driver will take you around the vicinity of the Luneta Park, where Jose Rizal’s monument stands. At first, we thought that it’s a real tram wherein it passes through tracks. Eventually, we realized that it runs using a diesel engine. I really don’t know how to call it so I just labeled it as tranvia jeepney. The tranvia has 2 separate coaches connected to each other so it really looks like a tranvia from afar.

I took a video of some of my blogger friends while riding the tranvia. It was a wonderful experience, and it made me feel like a child again. When you’re in Luneta Park, Manila, this is one thing you can do aside from strolling around or just take a rest in one of the benches there.

Filipino-Chinese Friendship Arch

Binondo, Manila’s third district, is also known as Manila’s Chinatown. We just had a photo walk here where our route began a couple or more meters away from the foot of Jones Bridge (just outside Original Savory). We were then welcomed by the picturesque Filipino-Chinese Friendship Arch.

We then headed to New Po-Heng Lumpia House where we had fresh lumpia (spring roll). Then, we walked some more and upon reaching the corner of Ongpin and San Nicolas streets, we saw there a shrine of Santo Cristo de Longos. Garlands of sampaguita can be found around the cross. At the foot of the cross, you will see there a jar with incense sticks lit up by the devotees.

Santo Cristo de Longos

With this imagery, you will surely notice the fusion of both Catholicism and Buddhism. After a few snaps, we walked some more and then we passed by another arch. As we reached the corner of Salazar and Ongpin streets, we saw this interesting street sign. We were not just interested to take a photo of this one because the pole had dragons. We noticed that the N in Ongpin is flipped horizontally. I’m not sure if it was just a mistake.

Street signs with dragons

Then, we had dumplings at Wai Ying Fastfood since Dong Bei was closed (not operating on a Black Saturday). Then, we walked towards Tomas Pinpin St. to try out the Singapore Hainanese Chicken Rice restaurant. On our way there, we passed by some interesting subjects to take photos of.

Calesa in the streets of Binondo

It would have been a nice idea to ride on a calesa (horse-drawn carriage) around Binondo. But since we’re quite a big group, we just chose to walk.

An old building in Binondo

The old buildings in Binondo are interesting subjects as well. Just by looking at the old buildings, you will easily notice the influence of Spanish and Chinese architecture.

Inside Binondo Church

A visit to the Binondo Church is also a must. Anyway, this was not included in our recently concluded photo walk.

Strolling around Binondo is like a time travel. Engaging in such activity will let you discover the beauty and charm of old Manila.

I stayed at the Sofitel Philippine Plaza Hotel a few days ago to assist in the Philippine College of Physicians Annual convention. My stay was actually unexpected. I was first booked in a room together with two other ladies I’m working with. The photos here are from the room I stayed and shared with a new person. The first room I occupied was at the 7th floor and had two single beds. It has a much bigger bathroom. The TV table is connected to the ofice table.

It was actually my first time to stay at Sofitel and it was quite good experience. I didn’t really have the time to maximize the facilities and amenities they offer because I have to leave very early (6:00 am) and arrive late from the convention at SMX (9:00 pm). I didn’t even have the chance to dine at Spiral. But nevertheless, I appreciated the staff for being courteous and very friendly. The rooms that I occupied were clean. Their television don’t have much cable channels. They only have local channels which is quite saddening, I wanted to watch CNN and Discovery Channel at that time.

The bathroom is very spacious. The rooms I occupied didn’t have bath tubs which was alright with me; I don’t really like using bath tubs. I just hope that they will be installing bidets in their bathrooms.

I don’t really know the exact amount of the rooms that I stayed in because I didn’t pay for it. From what I know the lowest price is Php 6500 (single bed) per night then the next price would be about Php 9,000.

Hopefully I could come back and stay at Sofitel again so that I could experience at least to dine at Spiral.
